Your rehearsal dinner is more than just a practice run—it’s the first event of your wedding weekend! It’s an opportunity for your closest family and friends to connect, celebrate, and relax before the big day. No matter the size of your wedding, having a rehearsal is key. It ensures everyone knows their role, helps your officiant understand the space, allows you to practice walking down the aisle, and most importantly, relieves any nerves for you and your wedding party.

So, where should you host your rehearsal and dinner?
1. A Local Park
For couples who love the outdoors, a local park like Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park offers a beautiful and functional setting. The amphitheater provides a scenic space for a ceremony run-through, and afterward, you can enjoy a laid-back picnic dinner at the park’s picnic tables. If you’re looking for something more formal, consider heading to a nearby restaurant or even the Waterford Country Club for an elegant meal with your loved ones.
2. Your Wedding Venue

If your wedding venue allows it, hosting your rehearsal there can be an ideal choice. You’ll want to confirm in advance that the space is available the night before your wedding. If permitted, you can set up a simple dinner in the venue itself or move the celebration to a nearby restaurant. For local couples, hosting a catered dinner at a family member’s home is another intimate and heartfelt option.
3. A Restaurant with an Open Space
Many restaurants offer private or semi-private dining areas that can be rearranged to accommodate your rehearsal needs. A cozy setting with great food ensures a memorable evening while keeping everything in one place. Be sure to communicate with the restaurant ahead of time to confirm availability and setup options.
Thinking Outside the Box: Rehearsals in Unique Spaces
Sometimes, wedding rehearsals need to happen on the fly. As a planner, I’ve coordinated rehearsals in churches, beaches and even at parking lots.. No matter the setting, the goal is always the same—to make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident for the big day. If you didn’t book a space ahead of time, flexibility is key!
Where You Cannot Host a Rehearsal Dinner: Airbnb
It’s important to note that Airbnb strictly prohibits parties and events, including wedding rehearsals. In August 2021, Airbnb implemented a policy to prevent damage and disturbances, limiting the number of guests allowed at rental properties. Many owners have cameras at entrances to monitor compliance, and violating these rules can lead to cancellations or penalties. Simply put—Airbnb is not an option for a rehearsal dinner, gathering, party or an event!
Alternative Spaces
If your venue or a local park isn’t an option, PeerSpace is a fantastic resource. It offers a variety of unique locations that you can book for small gatherings, making it a great alternative for hosting your rehearsal or dinner.

No matter where you decide to celebrate, remember—this is your first event as a nearly married couple, so make it special, meaningful, and fun for everyone involved!
